Formula

Gross paycheck = annual salary ÷ pay periods. U.S. federal withholding follows IRS Publication 15-T Worksheet 1A using W-4 adjustments. Net subtracts entered deductions, federal withholding, capped Social Security, Medicare, and entered local withholding.

Worked example

At 60,000 annual USD salary paid monthly in 2026, a single resident employee with a default W-4, no entered deductions/local withholding, and zero prior FICA wages has 5,000 gross, approximately 418.33 federal withholding, 310 Social Security, 72.50 Medicare, and 4,199.17 modeled net for this paycheck.

What the result means

A regular-paycheck estimate under the displayed rules, not a payslip, filing service, or comprehensive tax calculation. W-4 eligibility, employee exemptions, nonresident adjustments, bonuses/tips, and employer-specific benefit treatment need separate review.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which countries have automatic payroll rules?

The U.S. preset implements 2026 federal regular-wage withholding and employee FICA. Other countries use your entered deductions and withholding amounts.

Does it include state and local withholding?

Only amounts you enter; local rules are not automatically calculated.

Can I multiply this net paycheck by pay periods?

That can be misleading because wage caps, extra Medicare withholding, pay, and deductions can change during the year.

Key terms

Withholding
Money taken from a paycheck toward tax; it is not the same as final annual tax liability.
